The HTC Vive Cosmos Elite offers a resolution of 1440 x 1700 pixels per eye. The new liquid crystal display greatly reduces the screen-door effect, making the Vive Cosmos a very good headset for playing high-quality content. Due to its high image resolution, stylish design and ease of use, the Vive Cosmos is the ideal candidate for professional VR users and developers.

Vive Cosmos Elite, like the HTC Vive and Vive Pro, uses external tracking base stations. These external sensors ensure that the headset can be tracked accurately to the millimeter in a large space. The Vive Cosmos Elite can also be made wireless using the Vive Wireless Adapter, making the headset particularly suitable for free-roaming applications.

  • SteamVR Tracking and the Vive controllers provide highly accurate 360 degree tracking.
  • View the virtual world with a combined pixel resolution of 2880 x 1700; an 88% increase over the original Vive.
  • Rich stereo sound is integrated into the form-fitting on-ear headphones. Experience great sound on extended VR adventures.
  • Minimize interruptions in your VR game sessions. Freely switch back and forth from reality and the gaming world with the unique flip-up headset design.
  • Move wirelessly through the room with the Vive Wireless Adapter.
Pros and cons
  • With the new folding system you can fold the Cosmos Elite up when you are not using it, so you don't have to take it off anymore.
  • The tracking system supports 6 degrees of freedom, so that your movements register even more accurately.
  • With an adjustable headband with dial you can put the VR glasses comfortably and firmly on your head.
  • The Vive Cosmos Elite uses accurate remote tracking through base stations.
  • The VR glasses require a PC or laptop with at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 video card to function.
  • These VR glasses will not work with a smartphone or a console.
  • Note: in all cases avoid sunlight (direct or indirect) on the lenses. The lenses act like a magnifying glass, which can quickly cause fire damage to the screens. Click here for more Information on sun damage.

  1. Review taken from scan.co.uk

This headset is fantastic, let me start with that. Now that that's out of the way, let's start by saying that this headset is definitely overpriced (no SCANS error, it's purely HTC's suggested retail price). The headset itself is actually about the right price (£600~ on its own?) but unfortunately the cost of the baystations and Controllers hasn't really come down over the years. Pros: Flip up HMD (great if you play Elite: Dangerous!) Comfortable face padding High quality construction Great resolution Great sound Free viveport 6 month subscription Great selection of games on viveport Very long cable Cons: High price Fresnel lenses (boo! but you can do the gear vr mod if you don't mind voiding your warranty) Halo style headband can get a bit uncomfortable during long play sessions Tiny sweet spot (look up sweet spots in VR headsets for more info) Viveport sucks ( very janky) Lower FOV than other HMDs available Conclusion: Although the valve index has better audio, field of view, resolution etc. offers, the HTC Vive Cosmos Elite may prove to be a better long-term investment, the modular design of the headset means we can see many improvements in the future, meaning you can use your smartphone upgrade. HMD without the need to replace the whole thing. The quality is fantastic as you'd expect for the price and is definitely a good choice if you're looking to get into VR gaming.

  2. Super glasses!

Super glasses! Must put on the glasses and adjust them before you can see everything properly. Image quality looks good, provided you keep the lenses clean, of course.

  3. One of the best headsets you can buy right now

Best Current VR Headset (compared to the Valve Index).

  4. HTC Vive Cosmos Elite

Great and impressive device that I use almost every day to relax in a strenuous way, after a day behind the screen at work. I think there is a lot of fun (and free) content on Steam, and almost everything works fine. Gebruik i.c.m. 2080Ti.
